Macro Photography for Beginners

Macro Photography is considered to be the most challenging to master out of all photography methods. Making small objects appear big is a fascinating concept that captures the imagination of all individuals. A great macro photograph can be artistic without much forward planning. Recent advances in camera and lens technology has made high quality equipment available to the masses and macro is quickly growing in popularity. Macro is defined by the ratio 1:1 which means the subject will appear the same size as it would in real life on the photographic medium (film or sensor). Any photograph taken below this ratio is considered close-up rather than macro. The benefit of working below 1:1 is that you can get more of your subject in the frame. This often provides the best results.

The most important factor in macro photography is the aperture setting. Aperture means small hole or gap and in photography it controls how much light enters the camera. The light travels through the lens into the camera and reaches the photographic medium. Aperture is measured in f/numbers or stops which will be clearly marked on the camera lens. Beginners find aperture confusing at first because a large aperture is signified by a small number and a small aperture by a large number. The aperture setting controls a set of blades within the lens to alter the size of the opening. A large aperture setting (f2.8) will allow a large amount of light into the camera. A small aperture setting (f22) will allow a small amount of light into the camera.

A combination of aperture and shutter speed is required to produce a correctly exposed photograph. This means that the colours captured in the image are as true to real life as possible. An over exposed image will be too bright and an under exposed image too dark. It is sometimes possible to salvage an incorrectly exposed image with image editing software. It is always better and less time consuming to get the exposure right at the first attempt.

The aperture setting is not just used to control the exposure. In macro photography it is also used to control the depth of field. This is the area of the frame that is in sharp focus. Depth of field can be determined by the distance and magnification used for the shot. A small depth of field will mean only a small area of the image will be in sharp focus and the rest of the image will be blurred. A large depth of field means that a much larger area will appear to be in sharp focus.

At very high levels of magnification the distance between the subject and the camera lens is very small. This reduces light levels quite dramatically and can cause under exposure. The use of flash is a popular way to overcome this problem. Special flash systems can be bought and attached to the end of the camera lens providing a source of light close to the subject. This type of technology was originally used in dental and medical photography. It is now used by photographers to capture nature shots of insects and wildflowers.

Keeping the camera steady is the difficult part of macro photography because the slightest movement will be magnified. It is not possible to handhold when using small aperture settings. This would result in camera shake which blurs the shots. The weather conditions can make outdoor macro photography more challenging. To take a sharp image of an insect the camera has to be kept still, the insect has to remain relatively still during the exposure, and the object (often a plant) the subject is positioned on needs to remain still. A windbreak or adapted light box can be used to minimise any movement of your subject. This technique is very successful with botanic photography.

Macro photography can be a very difficult photographic discipline to accomplish and It can be very expensive collecting all the equipment required. It often takes years of practice to get consistently good macro and close up shots. Despite these negative aspects, is has to be the most rewarding form of photography to be involved in. Taking macro photographs is very addictive and people are always fascinated and astounded by the pictures. It is a great way to get some outdoor exercise in peaceful and relaxing locations. Macro will not just get you closer to nature but bring you closer to everything.

So, the message here is simple. To develop a child growing into the years of a teenager their self esteem can be built upon by offering words of encouragement, given praise when they complete a task or make some achievement as well as being provided a safe, secure environment.

Teenagers often distance themselves from their parents in their teenage years but this still does not mean the teenager can not be provided with comfort, security and a loving environment. Sure the teenager will lock themselves in their rooms, play video games on the computer or listen to music. Thats the life of a teenager.

But, there are times when the teenager openly acts within the family environment and it is on these occasions where a parent has the opportunity to speak openly with the teenager. This is the time to offer support, love, care and a norturing tone when speaking with the teenager.

As the teen feels secure in their environment and actually receives some praise of some sorts or recognition from their parents, it will stand to reason that the teenager will feel confident and have a better opinion about their self worth.

This is one area where a parent can concentrate on with their children that costs nothing but their time and consideration. So its true when they say, "give your child a hug" and while you are there, offer words of encouragement in their ear as it will naturally build the teenagers self esteem, providing them with self confidence and a good outlook on their self worth.

Laughter Is the Best Medicine

I believe that old chestnut that laughter is the best medicine.

I would say that the best Comedian would be one that could make you laugh without uttering a single word.

Right from the early days of old silent movies I would guess that modern day Comedians would learn a great deal.

Do actions speak louder than words? Most definitely take the Great Charlie Chaplin, I do not know a single person who has not had a good belly laugh at his antics. Hal Roach what a legend introducing us to what I would call modern comedy. The pie fights and crazy car chases all like they were running at 50 frames per second. Then we have the likes of Laurel and Hardy with talkies. Just the look with Oliver looking at the Camera with the disdaining look made me chuckle.

Classic example of actions would be The Three Stooges and their slapstick carry-ons. I suppose you could put Abbot and Costello in there also with one of the greatest banters or comedy routine of all time, 'Who's On First.'

Let's talk sidekicks, Dean had Jerry, Morecombe had Wise, Barker had Corbett. Would one be just as funny without the other? Sorry if I missed any.

When I stated the best Comedians would be the ones who could make you laugh even before uttering a syllable, Rowan Atkinson is the first that pops to mind, his one man routines like the Schoolmaster calling the attendance roll and Satan welcoming souls into Hell. Benny Hill close behind because he just looked like the Cat that had swallowed the Canary. Ventroloquists make for a good laugh, some of the jokes may be absolutely non laughable and lame but have a 'Dummy'tell the joke it is really funny. History of Kabbalah: ARI - the Foundation of Modern Kabbalah

The Ari was a landmark figure in the history of Kabbalah. He transformed the centuries-old Kabbalistic method so that Kabbalah was no longer a wisdom reserved for unique individuals with divine souls. The method he created was a preparation for the modern age, when masses of people would begin using the wisdom of Kabbalah for spiritual ascent.

The Ari was born as Isaac Luria Ashkenazi, in 16th century Jerusalem. He lived at the dawn of the technological era, when the Middle Ages were being rapidly replaced by the Renaissance, and the first sprouts of a new civilization began to emerge. But humanity was not undergoing just technological and cultural development. People also began to develop spiritually, to yearn for spiritual elevation and to discover the source of life. Precisely this new desire that emerged in humanity allowed the Ari to reshape the Kabbalistic method, in order to adapt it to the new spiritual desires of the masses.

Beginning with a very young age, he became interested in sacred texts and devoted all his time to studying Kabbalistic texts, such as the Holy Scriptures. Very quickly, he absorbed all the Kabbalistic knowledge that was attained before him and became a renowned spiritual teacher at the young age of 35.

The Ari headed a Kabbalistic school in a small town in Northern Israel called Tzefat. There, he expounded his spiritual attainment and the wisdom of Kabbalah, but he did not simply teach the things others before him had attained. He presented the Kabbalistic wisdom in a completely new way, and later generations would study the spiritual world using primarily his books.

But as fate would have it, he taught for just a year and a half before passing away at the age of 36. Of all his students, he felt that only one student had understood him enough to continue studying his spiritual teaching. This student was 28 year old Chaim Vital, and in the year and a half he had studied with the Ari, he wrote down everything he heard. When the Ari passed away, Chaim Vital was the only disciple allowed to continue and publicize the Ari's work.

All the existing texts of the Ari's Kabbalistic teaching are the notes Chaim Vital took during that year and a half. They comprise about 20 volumes, of which the most important text is The Tree of Life. This text examines the origin of all life and the essence of Creation or man. Most importantly, it talks about the general force of Nature that governs everything and brings everything into existence. The Ari called this force "Upper Light." Here is an excerpt from the book The Tree of Life:

Behold that before the emanations were emanated and the creatures were created,

The Upper Simple Light had filled the whole existence.

And there was no vacancy, such as an empty atmosphere, a hollow, or a pit,

But all was filled with Simple, Boundless Light.

And there was no such part as head, or tail,

But everything was Simple, Smooth Light, balanced evenly and equally,

And it was called the Endless Light.

The Ari's great achievement was that he renovated the entire Kabbalistic method that existed before him for thousands of years - the method of attaining the Upper Light. Before him, the method was intended only for special people whose souls already possessed unique spiritual qualities. After the Ari, the method could be used by the masses, by anyone who truly desires spiritual ascent, regardless of age, gender or nationality. Thanks to the Ari, anyone can now engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah, find out about the purpose of Creation, and attain a sensation of the Upper Light.

Moreover, the Ari paved the way for Kabbalah to become a modern science. He was the first Kabbalist to expound the wisdom about the spiritual world in a modern, scientific language. Before him, Kabbalists had stated the same knowledge in a mysterious, concealed language of legends, fantastical stories and the like. Their texts could be properly interpreted only by other Kabbalists, and remained hidden to the uninformed reader.

Thus, the Ari laid the foundations for modern Kabbalah, creating a method that responded to people's new spiritual desires in his generation. The Kabbalistic method used in the world today by millions of people is also based on the Ari's work, and his book The Tree of Life remains a fundamental textbook used by modern students of Kabbalah.

Yes, anyone can achieve success. Success is not a place or a thing, it is a state of mind. A journey in our own mind restricted only by our own thoughts.

To each person success is an entirely different thing. To you success may mean being debt free and having a million dollars in the bank. To me success may be 100 million dollars. To the homeless success may just be a warm place for the night.

If you ask the average working person if he thinks his life has been a success he will probably tell you yes. He may not be rich, but he will feel successful to that particular point in life. Your success depends largely on your attitude. If you start your day with a good attitude you will overcome most of the obstacles that come your way and move on in the direction of success. A person with a negative attitude will wake up in the morning and see only gray sky and clouds. When asked to do something at work they think only of what’s in it for me. They will probably do the task and do it well, but they can be heard grumbling and moaning about it for the rest of the day.

When standing in a line at a market they will complain about how long the line is and then give the person at the check out counter a bad time as though it were her fault that he had to wait his turn.

Good things will happen to those with the proper attitude. So, yes. Attitude is important. With the proper attitude you can accomplish any goal you set for yourself. It is in our best interest to develop a positive attitude. If we think a thing will be and we allow ourselves to believe then it is almost certain that we will achieve what we set out to do.

It may only be my opinion, but I believe that everyone is successful. I believe everyone has the natural ability to be a success. It is up to each individual to determine how much success he or she wants and how to reach that level of success.

We have all had a number of successes in our lives already and we will have many more. We successfully completed school. We successfully landed a job or a position we wanted. We successfully completed the purchase of a new home.

These are successes that we take for granted, but they were still successes. We have been learning from childhood about success and how to obtain it. When we were small children we discovered that if we cried loud enough and long enough we would get the attention we wanted. That was a success. We also learned that if we studied hard enough we could get the grade we wanted in school. That too, was a success.

As we grow older we seem to forget that we know anything about the art of success. We start working for an employer and stop working for ourselves and our own success. However, we still have the capacity and ability to be successful.

I don’t know why it is, but when we begin working for the other person we seem to forget that we had dreams and desires of our own. We place ours on the back burner and never seem to get back to them. We pursue the dreams of the other person and we stay at a set point in our own life.

There is an old saying, which offends a lot of people and a lot more don’t understand. It says that at any given time in life you are exactly where you choose to be. Many people find this offensive and respond with something like this, “now wait a minute here, I didn’t choose to be broke and in debt.” No, you didn’t choose to be broke and in debt, but you have not chosen to do anything about it either. You settled for less.

Others will scratch their heads and wonder, what the heck does that mean, I’m not where I want to be! No, you are not where you want to be, but you have not chosen to do anything about it either. You settled for less.

When you chose to do something about your own situation and take some steps to accomplish your mission then you will move on. You will become more successful than you are now. When you seriously set your mind to it you will find the ways to complete your mission and nothing will be able to stop you.

To become successful one does need an education. Not necessarily the normal high school, collage type of education, but education is definitely a factor. To reach your own level of success you must first become a student of the field you have chosen for yourself. Become a student of the business. Learn all you can and never stop learning.

A collage education can prepare you to be an engineer or whatever you choose, and that is good, but no school can prepare you to be successful. Success depends on your own attitude and how much effort you put into your quest for success.

The amount of education we have is important, but not as important as the type of education we have. I know a man who studied hard and learned much about teaching and became a school principal. He made a decent living in his chosen field, but he felt there was more to be had.

This school principal became a student of a new business and soon left the educational system and went on to become a millionaire. He was educated, but more knowledge and belief made a lot of difference in his future.

The point is, there are no dumb people. Take the doctor out of his field and he seems to lack intelligence. Take the plumber out of his field and he too, is lost. All we need to reach success is a desire to learn and the courage to step out of our own comfort zone and take control of our future.
